Why Wellbeing At Work Is Here To Stay.

Not that long ago, Workplace Wellbeing Programs (WWPs) were thought of as fluffy or at best, a nice thing to have but not effective.

This is no longer the case. Smart leaders acknowledge and understand that WWPs are here to stay. Done well, they deliver improved productivity, workplace culture and significantly contribute to employee brand.

Over the last decade, study after study has proven without a shadow of a doubt that investment in a well thought out, properly managed, bespoke WWP has the ability to take your organisation to the next level.

My experience working with organisations to create bespoke WWPs, has shown me that a successful Program doesn’t necessarily require a big budget. One thing it does need, is to be tailored so it is relevant to your organisation. One size does not fit all when it comes to delivering successful WWPs.

Below are some of the key benefits of implementing a successful WWP:

Key Benefits of a Successful Workplace Wellbeing Program

  1. Improved Productivity and Performance – Engaging employees in WWPs such as exercising, healthy eating, stretching at work, stress management and mindfulness have been shown to help employees feel more energised and able to focus on tasks and retain information. This creates a positive and motivated workforce that has the ability and willingness to accomplish tasks with less resistance and at a higher quality.

  2. Improved Workplace Culture – One of the most important aspects of an organisation is its culture. A bespoke WWP can be a great way to improve yours. Life at work can sometimes feel overwhelming or stressful and mixing it up with appropriate wellbeing activities at work can give employees an opportunity to have some fun and decompress. It can also provide employees with a sense of accomplishment and the opportunity to meet, collaborate with and develop relationships with colleagues from other areas of the organisation in a meaningful way.

  3. Reduced Absenteeism and Staff Turnover – Improved health and wellbeing creates a more resilient and willing workforce, better able to deal with the stress and strain that invariably comes during the cyclical busy periods all workplaces experience. This is where the connectedness and improved physical and emotional fitness built up during those Workplace Wellbeing activities throughout the year comes to the forefront. A connected and resilient workforce is less likely to take sick leave when the pressure is on and leave their colleagues in the lurch. They will be motivated to achieve outstanding results and will be less likely to look for opportunities with other organisations due to a sense of accomplishment, connectedness and fulfilment at work.

  4. Improved Brand of Choice – Employers are increasingly finding that they need to have a successful WWP in place to be competitive in the talent market. Millennials are not only expecting, but demanding organisations have strong WWPs in place before considering working with that organisation. They want to know they will be supported and cared for by the organisation. They want to know they matter. They want to know that you deserve their loyalty.

Workplace Wellbeing Programs are here to stay and if you don’t get on board, you will be left behind. WWPs don’t need to be expensive, but they do need to be bespoke and relevant to your organisation to get results.
