In a world experiencing such a rapid rate of technological advancement and change, we constantly need to be able to learn, adapt and grow or we will be left behind.
High level learning agility is crucial for success.
We all have learning agility, we use it from the day we are born, it’s just that a large majority of people seem to turn it off somewhere along the line.
We become complacent, don’t want things to change, develop fixed views and attitudes and lose that desire to learn and grow.
I have developed a simple, pragmatic and clinically based model for high learning agility that is easy to use every day.
Learning Agility consists of four key attributes:
· Social Agility
· Emotional Agility
· Creative Agility
· Integrity Agility
Adopting and cultivating these attributes has been critical to the success of many of my clients, both corporate and individual, in wide range of fields.
Consider how adopting and cultivating the following four attributes of learning agility can give you the winning edge.
Social Agility - People with high social agility are exceptional communicators. They have a genuine interest in people and enjoy connecting with others and developing positive relationships. They recognise they can’t do everything by themselves, are inclusive and collaborative, and skilled at motivating, persuading and inspiring others to get results.
Emotional Agility – People with high emotional agility seek to become aware of their thoughts, feelings, opinions and beliefs, and want to understand how their behaviours affect themselves and others. They typically possess high levels of empathy and resilience, are willing to objectively look at their strengths and weaknesses, and view failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. They are committed to finding ways to improve their ability to handle tough situations and are results focused.
Creative Agility – People with high creative agility have a thirst for knowledge and an openness to exploring new ideas and experiences. They’re able to see the big picture, make links and connections, and look at issues from multiple points of view. They are not afraid to take on challenging roles and enjoy finding ways to solving the unsolvable problem.
Integrity Agility – People with high integrity agility are not afraid to walk their talk. They are flexible, adaptable and strive to be their best self. They are willing to listen to and consider other points of view, are not afraid to admit when they are wrong, and give credit where it is due. They focus on the development of sound ethics and values and are committed to aligning their actions with their values. Others love to work with, follow, and are willing to go the extra mile for these people.
If you want to be successful, you have to learn from experiences and be willing to develop and grow.
Becoming fixed in our views and attitudes, as well as refusing to let go of the old ways of doing things will only lead to stagnation and certain failure.
There is always a risk of failure when trying new things, but if we develop our learning agility and adopt the mindset that failure is an opportunity to learn and grow we will, in fact, always succeed.
