How To Be Positive in Trying Times.

Think Positive, Act Positive. Be Positive. The choice is yours!

Contrary to popular opinion, being positive or adopting a positive mindset, doesn’t mean that we stick our heads in the sand and ignore whatever challenging situation is going on in our life.

Being positive, means that when we experience something hard in our life, we approach it in more positive, reasoned and solution focussed way.

Below is my simple Be Positive 4 step process.

STEP 1. This begins with identifying, acknowledging and accepting the situation as it is. Once you do this, I find asking the question, “Is it true?” a good way to check whether I am blowing the situation out of perspective or not. If you are not sure, it may help to check it out with a trusted friend who will challenge your thinking and has your best interests at heart, or a professional coach or counsellor.

STEP 2. Once you have acknowledged and accepted the situation as it is, the next step is to let go of all negative self-talk or thoughts going on in your head. You can find a simple, easy way to do this in my new book, “Grow Your Calm: The Roadmap For Your Journey From Stress To Peace.”

STEP 3. The next step is to train yourself to think and act in a more positive way. Once you have succeeded in letting go of your negative thoughts, you merely need to look at how you can reframe how you think about it. We always have the choice to think positively or negatively about whatever situation we find ourselves in. And we can always turn a negative situation into a more positive one. Ask, what is this situation telling me? What do I need to change? Can I improve this situation? Is this an opportunity for me to learn something new? And, what is the is opportunity I can create from this?

STEP 4. Finally, once you work out what it is you want to change, make a plan to change the situation you are in, and take positive action to make the changes you want.

Remember, when you adopt a positive mindset, you feel better, perform better, and are better able to cope with the stressors of everyday life. Think Positive, Act Positive. Be Positive. The choice is yours.
